Present: Board members Cheney, Gray, Kaplan, Sachsse, Vitt; Administrators Gersen, Edson; teacher Ceci Tseng
1. Call to order – Chair Sachsse called the meeting to order at 9:10.
2. Presentation of Leave Request
Ceci Tseng reviewed her written request for an extended leave of ten days in accordance with Article 7.10 of the agreement between the Norwich Teachers Association and the Norwich Board of School Directors. Ms. Tseng requested the leave for the purpose of visiting her daughter who will be studying in New Zealand during the 2005-06 academic year. In seeking leave from November 16 through December 9, Ms. Tseng would use a total of fifteen (15) days of leave, missing fourteen (14) days of school and the initial Parent-Teacher Conference day. Ms. Tseng’s request for fifteen total days incorporated her five (5) personal leave days, which Principal Edson approved in accordance with the agreement.
3. Non-Public Session
At 9:26 AM, Margaret Cheney made a motion to enter executive session in accordance with Title 1, Section 313 for discussion of a personnel issue. Deb Kaplan seconded the motion and the Board voted unanimously to enter non-public session.
The Board re-entered public session at 9:58 AM.
4. Action on Leave Request
Linda Gray moved to deny the leave request in accordance with Article 7.10 of the agreement between the Norwich Teachers Association and the Norwich Board of School Directors. Deborah Kaplan seconded the motion. The board voted 4-1 to deny the request with Cheney voting against the motion.
5. Adjournment
Linda Gray moved and Margaret Cheney seconded a motion to adjourn at 10:00 AM. The Board unanimously supported the motion. |
