Summary of Lebanon St. sub-committee meeting of April 11, 2005

1. We met at the football field and walked around the high school campus. Some quick observations:

A) The football field and track will need to be moved due the staging area for the renovation project and a parking area. So the field will move "away" from the high school. Apparently, there will need to be a discussion about the far end of the property where the existing fence does not accurately reflect where the Dresden property actually ends. Before we get too far along in the budget process, we need to discuss the size and dimensions of the track. The standard size of a track is 400 meters with 8 lanes; there is some flexibility in how the track is configured.

B) We spent a lot of time at the current field hockey field. Jonathan Brush reported that we can receive a great amount of "fill" for free; he discussed adding fill to a level of 10 feet. This would allow the field dimension to be expanded, particularly its width. There are some drainage issues; a culvert at the end of the field is in poor condition and there is a lot of erosion. There is also a drainage pipe running underneath the current field and we need to do something with that before we commit to the fill idea.

We briefly discussed the placement of lights on the field. It seemed feasible to install lights that would be adequate and still be lower than the existing tree line.

2. We met in the high school and had a brief follow up discussion and assigned some tasks so we would be able to report back to the full committee on April 25.

Lights: Jonathan and Cam will look into this; checking on costs and looking into recent Upper Valley projects like the one at Hartford High School.

Turf Fields: Buff is going to look into this. Barry is going to contact some people at Manchester High Schools where turf fields exist. Barry will also try to summarize the report from Chappaqua, NY

Track: Barry is going to gather information from the recent track projects at Windsor and Lebanon.

3. We were not able to schedule a meeting for next week since several people were going to be gone over school vacation week.

4. In addition to the sub-committee, the meeting was attended by Marilyn Denk. She emphasized the importance of getting the neighborhood involved ASAP. I said that at the April 25 full-committee meeting that we would announce a date for a meeting of the neighborhoods that abut the HS property.
