Where We Skate & What To Bring
Short track (indoors):
Bring a bicycle helmet, knee pads, long pants or tights, long sleeves and winter gloves.
Nordic, Marathon and Wild Skating (outdoors):
Dress warmly in multiple layers of breathable, moisture-wicking fabric, and mittens (not gloves). A lightweight balaclava is a good idea.
Outdoor Ice
Lake Morey, Fairlee, Vermont.
Usually open for skating from late December to early March, and occasionally into April. When there's no snow, you can skate the entire shoreline: 5 miles around. Northbound, take Exit 15 off Interstate 91 and turn left at the end of the ramp (turn right if southbound).
Take the first right onto Lake Morey East Road. Go 2.5 miles to Hulbert Outdoor Center on your right. Next driveway on your left leads to a plowed parking area at the lakeshore.
Occom Pond.
From January through mid-March we skate on a plowed 300-meter long track oval on Occom Pond
in Hanover, New Hampshire.
Take Exit 13 off Interstate 91 and follow signs toward Hanover.
Cross the Connecticut River and go up the hill to the traffic light at the top.
Then go counter-clockwise ¾ of the way around the Dartmouth College Green
and take a right on North Main Street.
Follow almost to the end. Just before North Main dead-ends at the golf course, take a left
on Hilton Field Road and go down the hill to the pond. Park along the right side of the road.
The oval is at the south end of the pond.
Storrs Pond.
Long and narrow and surrounded by steep evergreen-covered hillsides, Storrs Pond is usually the first pond to freeze in early to mid-December.
From the Dartmouth College Green in Hanover, go north on Route 10 for 1½ miles.
Turn right on Reservoir Road and go ½ mile to the end of the blacktop. Take a hairpin left turn into the Storrs Pond Recreation Area. If the road is open, drive past the ticket booth to the lower parking lot. If the road is closed, park in the gravel lot to the right of the ticket booth and walk down to the ice.
Deweys Pond, Quechee, Vermont.
Site of the Quechee Winter Carnival in February, Deweys Mills is wide and shallow with an island in the middle. Take Exit 1 off Interstate 89 and turn left on US 4 West. Go 1 mile to the Fat Hat Factory on your right and turn right on Clubhouse Road. Go down hill 1.2 miles and take a left on Deweys Mills Road. Second driveway on the right is the parking lot.
Post Pond.
From Lyme Village, New Hampshire, go north 1½ miles on Route 10.
Turn left into the boat launch ramp on the northeast side of the pond.
Grafton Pond.
Take Exit 17 off Interstate 89 and turn right (east) on US 4.
Go 2 miles, then bear right on Route 4-A.
Go 10 miles to a dirt road on your left by the highway garage.
Follow this dirt road to the end, then take a left and look for the pond on your right.
Mascoma Lake.
Take Exit 17 off Interstate 89 and turn right at the end of the ramp onto US 4 East.
Go 2 miles uphill, then bear right onto Route 4-A.
Go another 2 miles to the parking lot by the Shaker Bridge on your left.
Squam Lake.
Take Exit 24 off Interstate 93 and turn right at the end of the ramp onto US 3 South.
Follow 5 miles through Ashland and Holderness village.
Go another 2 miles to the Squam Lakes Association on your left.
Lake Sunapee.
Northbound, take Exit 12-A off Interstate 89 and turn left at the end of the ramp (turn right if southbound).
At the blinker and stop sign, go straight across Route 11 and down the hill to the Georges Mills boat landing.
Connecticut River.
We have several meeting points on the riverbank, depending on where the ice is good.
Always skate in a group, and always carry ice safety equipment.
Lake Champlain.
From Intersate 89, follow US 2 west to South Hero, left on South Street, right on West Shore Road to the beach on your left.
Lake George.
From Interstate 89, follow US 4 west to Whitehall, New York. Turn right on NY 22 north. Go 5 miles, take a left on County Road 6, and go over the mountain to Hulett's Landing. Follow signs to Washington County Park.

Indoor Ice
Laconia Ice Arena.
On Route 107 just south of downtown Laconia, New Hamphsire. Take the US 3 - Route 11 Bypass to the Route 106 exit.
Go north down the hill on Route 106, take a sharp right onto Route 107 and follow to the rink.
Hartford Municipal Arena.
Behind Hartford High School in White River Junction, Vermont.
Take Exit 12 off Interstate 91 and follow signs to US 5.
At the stop sign,
take a right on US 5 South and follow ½ mile until you see the big "Valcom" sign on your right.
Just past the sign, take a right onto Hebard Ave., and an immediate left on Highland Ave.
Follow Highland ¼ mile past the high school to a driveway just before a tall chain-link fence.
Take a right into this driveway, park in the lot, and walk diagonally to your right across the football field to the rink.
James W. Campion Rink.
On Route 10 between Hanover and West Lebanon, New Hampshire.
Take Exit 13 off Interstate 91 and follow signs toward Hanover.
Cross the Connecticut River and go up the hill to the traffic light at the top.
Take a right on Route 10 (South Main Street) and go 1 mile to a large complex of athletic fields
on your left. The rink entrance is also on the left, just past the athletic fields.
Thompson Arena, Dartmouth College.
On Route 120 in downtown Hanover, New Hampshire.
Take Exit 13 off Interstate 91 and follow signs toward Hanover.
Cross the Connecticut River and go up the hill.
At the second traffic light,
take a right on Route 120 (South Park Street). Rink entrance is on the left, at the next light.
Kimball Union Academy.
Just off Route 120 in the village of Meriden, New Hampshire.
Take Exit 20 off Interstate 89 and go south 1.5 miles on Route 12-A past the shopping centers and the asphalt plant.
At the sign for Kimball Union Academy, turn left on Trues Brook Road and follow 7 miles to Meriden Village.
Going over the hill, you'll see campus buildings on both sides of the street.
At the bottom of the hill, look for three small white signs on your left: "Arts Center - Hockey Rink - Tennis Courts".
Turn in the paved driveway on your left.
Rink is in the large brick building straight ahead, with parking on left.
