AN ANNIVERSARY DATE WITH RSVP

Elaine George's husband, Franklin, had an appointment elsewhere on their 4th wedding anniversary. No problem here, Elaine already had a date! She would be teaching the Cub Scouts of Den 5, Pack 13, how to play The Recycle Game. Our Bill Mitchell, who invented the board game, was on the scene that day and was so pleased at the boys' response that he made a gift of two games to Pack 13.

Elaine has worked as an RSVP volunteer for a year and a half and in that time has ably demonstrated her versatility...and RSVP's! Elaine volunteers at the Vermont Department of Health in White River Junction (where she worked for about 15 years) and they are happy to have her. But that's just part of the story. This dedicated Red Socks' fan and avid bowler also serves on the RSVP Advisory Council; she sold daffodils to raise money for the American Cancer Society; she staffed a "SAG" (rest stop) for the Norris Cotton Cancer Center's fitness walk; and now she's starting America Reads activities at White River Elementary School.

As for that wedding anniversary, Elaine and Franklin celebrated with friends, bowling a few games and eating dinner out...A perfect end to a busy day for the RSVP volunteer we picture here.

The RSVP Waste Wizard Reminds You: Reduce Reuse Recycle Reject Rethink

Thanks to the Mitchell's generous gift of 100 games, RSVP is able to donate copies of the game to school, troops, senior cents, and the teaching volunteers. (Additional games for gifts are available from RSVP@valley.net for $20 each as part of our annual fundraising efforts.)

Contact the coordinator nearest you to sign up for a training session to be held after the holidays. You need not be a recycling expert -- the game comes with a great guide authored by Mr. Mitchell to make it easier and more enjoyable, volunteers will go in teams and the RSVP coordinators will make all the arrangements at a time convenient for everyone. All you need do is provide the enthusiasm!
