Prescott Clark sold his farm in the late 1700s and became impoverished. In 1800 he was the low bidder for the care of the Widow Judkins at 79 cents a week. In 1803 the town meeting voted to build a 'Pound' on the common between the meeting house and the pond. 'Thirty-six feet square, of hewn timbers, eight feet high from top of sill to top of plate.' The building of it was bid off to Prescott Clark for $25. [WAW p. 80]
In 1820 and 1821 Prescott Clark and his four children were paupers themselves, their care the responsibility of the selectmen. [WAW p. 89] Shortly thereafter they left Canaan and made the journey to Sutton, Vermont.

"Elizabeth Cunningham never recovered after the death of her husband. He and the three oldest children had all died leaving only Ada as a 6 month old baby. Elizabeth had a nervous breakdown and became a depressed recluse. She was cared for by her aunt Kate for much of the next 22 years. When she was dying, in a small house in Malden, the priest came to say the last rites. She told the priest that she didn't send for him. Ada had to wait outside the room, because she wasn't Catholic."

“Nina went to Minnesota on a visit to her aunt Hatttie, and ended up marrying Ernest Eggers. They operated a store in Gettysburg, SD in 1910 photo, but the marriage didn't last. She was obsessed with taking care of things and keeping things orderly. She covered the linoleum floor with papers to keep it from becoming scuffed, and covered the furniture with sheets. She also worried that her husband was having an affair when her neice, Florence Houghton, came to visit.

Nina moved to Lebanon, NH, after her marriage failed. She lived near her brother Guy at 208 Mechanic Street until her death.”
