A Trip to Mt. Hepsidam Observatory

The Mt. Hepsidam Tower Longing for a taste of real “back to nature” camping, the members of the Mascoma Summer Camp and guests left on Saturday, Aug. 12, for a hiking trip to Mt. Hepsidam Observatory. This observatory was erected by Mr. Guy Clark (the owner of the property) of spruce tree timber and is fifty feet in height, from the top of which a most wonderful panoramic view of mountains ranging from the Berkshires to the Canadian line is spread before you.

After the supper in the open the campers watched the gorgeous sunset over the Green Mountains and almost at the same time watched the rising of the full moon over the mountain to the east while Mr. Clark explained very interestingly the names and location of many of the highest mountains which may be plainly seen on a clear day.

After an evening of singing and story telling all turned in for the night beneath the stars, with bodies close to Mother Earth. The Clarks represent the spirit of kindness and hospitality and each camper was loath, on the following day, to leave the spot and end the trip which will long stand out prominently in the minds of all.
